STEFAN V (ISTVAN) AR OBOL BY JEWISH MINTMASTER

Very Fine+, 9.5mm, .18 gram.

Obverse: Crowned king's head to left, MONETA UNGARIE around   Reverse: Two birds facing each other; "ALEPH" in center.

A Very SCARCE and well executed coin for a short lived ruler. The early kings of Hungary employed Jewish mintmasters until the late 13th Century. Although their identities remain unknown there mintmarks which are assumed to be their initials remain on some of the coins they minted. An intriguing tiny historical silver coin!
