BYZANTINE. Pseudo-Imperial issue with the types of Justin II (AD 565-578) from the Alexandria mint. AE 12 nummi (15mm, 2.97gm) Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Justin II r. / I B; cross between. Cf. DOC 188; MIBE 67; SB 389 for types, but the style is crude and the legend incomplete. Another crude issue of an Alexandrian 12 nummi was sold by CNG (Electronic Auction 235, lot 534) as a coin struck by "Uncertain Germanic Tribes," but one wonders whether such coins might not be pseudo-Byzantine issues of the early Islamic period.
