ANTIOCHOS V111 EPIPHANES ( GRYPOS). 121/0-97/6 BC. AR Tetradrachm, 12 h. Damaskos mint.
Dated SE 193  ( 120/19 BC).  Diademed head right with hair in curls above forehead.
Diadem ends falling straight behind, fillet border/ Zeus Uranios, nude, standing to the left holding eight ray
star in extended right hand. Scepter in left hand, royal titles. all within laurel wreath.

This Tetradrachm struck on a large flan, very well centered, nicely toned and about extremely fine.'
From an old Continental collection.
 
Antiochos Grypos held Damascos for the second time from 111/0 until c. 108/7.
The obverse style is typical Damascene, quitte beautiful or handsome for this period.
Newell divided the Attic coinage into earlier and later groups based on a change from a nude to a draped
figure of Zeus Uranios. . The coins of Damascos fix this transition at 118/7.
