Bronze 'propeller' or belt stiffener. Measures 31mm, scallop shell form, nice green patina. For reference, see Bishop & Coulston, Roman Military Equipment, figures 137 and 141.

This type of belt fitting originated perhaps in the 2nd Century originally as a womans belt, but became popular with the Eastern legions. Such stiffeners are seen on the Arch of Constantine, and were apparently used primarily on sword belts.
