zoom view
HADRIAN AR silver 'fouree' denarius. Most likely created circa 117-118 AD, as the given date of 108 AD (Hadrian's first consulship) is almost certainly impossible. IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS (no AVG), laureate, cuirassed & draped bust right. Reverse - PONT MAX R POT COS I, Fortuna seated left, holding rudder & cornucopia. No RIC number, as this is a forger's creation, but it appears based on RIC 122, using COS I (which is superfluous) instead of COS III. 18.5mm, 2.3g.

Interestingly, Hadrian served as consul for the first time during the reign of Trajan in 108 AD, his second consulship taking place during his reign, in 118 AD, following his accession.
