DIVUS JULIUS CAESAR (and Octavian) AE 'halved' heavy dupondius. Struck in GAUL, at Colonia Viennensis, circa 36 BC. IMP CAESAR (written above and below portraits) IMP DIVI F DIVI IVLI, (written counterclockwise along edge). Bare heads of Julius Caesar (and Octavian) back to back (Caesar on left, Octavian on right). Reverse - Prow of galley with pyramidal superstructure right. RPC I 517. 31x15mm, 8.2g. Rare.

Halved, presumably for change as was the custom, due to a lack of small change in the provinces following the destabilization of the collapsing Republic. Certainly an affordable way to get a pretty decent portrait of Julius Caesar.
