Comments

Not much is known about this governor of Tabaristan, except that there are coins minted in his name from PYE 135 to 137. There are two different types for his coins, one with his name in Arabic to the right of his bust on obverse (Album 63) and one in which his name appears on the lower left on the margin of obverse (Album 64). Both types are reported to be rare. Famous Islamic historian Tabari speaks of Jarir ibn Yazid who was the governor of al-Basra during the reign of Harun al-Rashid. During the time that Jarir minted his coins, there are coins that exist for Mihran (PYE 135) and Sulayman (PYE 136-7).
