CommentsAl-Mahdi
or Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn al-Mansur was the third
Abbasid Caliph from 158 AH to 169 AH. He was born in AD 712 and died in
AD. 775. He was the father of Abbasid
ruler Harun al-Rashid. Al-Mahdi declared that the caliph had the ability – and indeed, the responsibility – to define the orthodox theology of Muslims.
LikeUmayyad
coins before, some of al-Mahdi's coins lack the reference to his name. This is a typical
example for this type.
