Bar Kochba War, AD 132-135

Denomination : Silver Zuz (denarius).  Date : undated, issued AD 134-135.

Reference : Meshore 57b (same obverse die).

Size : 18.3 x 19.2 mm. Weight : 3.25 grams.

Grade : gXF (as struck) with minor weakness as usual.

Obverse : Clustre of grapes with a Hebrew inscription reading "Shimon" around.  This obverse is from the same dies as Meshorer #57b.

Reverse : Lyre surrounded by a Hebrew inscription reading "for the freedom of Jerusalem".

Although you cannot see it on the image, with the coin in hand if you look very closey to the bottom left edge of the obverse (between 6 and 8 o'clock) one can see a faint retrograde "VES" which shows that this coin is overstruck on a Roman denarius of Vespasian or Titus.
