Trajan Æ dupondius, 98-117 AD, 12.96gm, struck in Rome ca. 103 AD, 27.19mm.  Obv: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAI[ANO AVG GER DAC P] M TR P COS V P P; radiate bust right, slight drapery on far shoulder.  Rev: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI; Abundantia standing left, holding grain ears over modius and cornucopia; in background to right, prow; S-C across fields.  RIC II p280, 494; Cohen 472.  aEF; rich red patina is very attractive in-hand, the obverse in particular is more attractive than photo shows; strong portrat; small flan flaw above ear on obverse.

       

This is one of a series of coins we will be offering over the next few weeks which we have repurchased from one of our customers.The customer obtained a David Sear Certificate of Authenticity for all of these, however unfortunately all the original certificates were lost.The customer made copies of the certificates, however, which have been located and which we will provide with these coins when they are purchased.We have verified with Mr. Sear that the original certificates can be “reconstituted” from Mr. Sear’s registration numbers that are shown on the copies.The COA for this particular coin describes its condition as “about EF with reddish-brown patina, striking-split at 5 o’clock.”
