Galerius as Caesar AR argenteus, 293-305 AD, 3.33gm, struck 297 AD in Antioch, 19.5mm.  Obv: MAXIMIA-NVS CAESAR; laureate head of Galerius right.  Rev: VIRTVS MILITVM; campgate surmounted by three turrets, gateway open; in right field, H (for eigth officina); in exergue, ANT.  cf. RIC VI p617, 36 (only recorded for Constantius Caesar); RSC/Cohen 225av (also with star in reverse field to left).  See last sentence of note below for condition.


This is one of a series of coins we have been offering which we have repurchased from one of our customers.The customer obtained a David Sear Certificate of Authenticity for all of these coins, however unfortunately all the original certificates were lost.The customer made copies of the certificates, however, which have been located and which we will provide with these coins when they are purchased.We have verified with Mr. Sear that the original certificates can be “reconstituted” from Mr. Sear’s registration numbers that are shown on the copies.The COA for this particular coin describes its condition as “Choice EF and rare, this issue unrecorded for Galerius Maximian in the principal works of reference.”
