Wooden Kah Mask

Ancient Coins - Wooden Kah Mask
zoom view

A nice mummy or "kah" mask of wood, probably dating from the Late Period (747 - 332 B.C.), possibly earlier. This example measures approximately 200mm (8 inches) high. The mask survives from antiquity with a good bit of the original gesso and paint, detailing the eyes and headdress, though faded and encrusted to a great extent. Good overall preservation with traces of white gesso, despite the losses to the original gesso and paint as well as typical insect damage to the reverse.
