Hawaiian large cent. 1847. Only five official coins were issued for the Kingdom of Hawaii. These include the 1847 cent issued by King Kamehameha III and the 1883 silver dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars of King Kalakaua I, which bear his portrait. All silver coins were struck at San Francisco mint. After the sovereign Hawaii Kingdom was overthrown by the United States and became a U.S. territory in 1900, the legal tender status of these coins was removed and most were withdrawn and melted. Only 100,000 were ever minted, making this the most RARE of the 5 types. This is the crosslet 4 variety, (with the crosslet at the end of the 4) variety, 15 (7/8) berries reverse. MS-64+ details, coin has been cleaned. List MS-63 at $2500.00 GREAT PRICE @$1250.
