AELIA EUDOXIA. (Wife of Arcadius d. AD 404)

Obverse: AEL EVDOXIA AVG
Pearl-diademed, draped bust right, wearing pearl necklace and earrings, crowned with a wreath by the hand of God.

Reverse: SALVS REIPVBLICAE
Victory seated right, inscribing Christogram on shield set on a column.

Exergue: ANTG
Mint City: Antioch. Struck AD 404-06

Reference: RIC 104

Interesting bust, with some protuberance on the mouth (die problem?) Eudoxia seems to be carrying a baton over her right shoulder, but it's an optical illusion brought about by the three globules formed by the hair ties and the adornment on the drapery, which also make it look as if her right arm were holding the non-existent baton.
