| Facing head of Medusa with disheveled hair., Aurora / Victory, draped and winged, flying right, head facing slightly left, holding palm in left hand, conducting four rearing horses of the sun., Control mark on obverse. Struck with worn dies. Some die breaks on observe, on eyes and hair. Beautiful specimen on a large flan, high in relief, with light golden highlights. L. Plautius Plancus moneyer. With an interesting history, this coin is supposed to depict a painting of Nikomachos on the reverse, owned by L. Plautius Plancus. After his assassination in 43 BC, his brother L. Munatius Plancus inherited it and offered it to Jupiter.
