Ancient Coins - Athens. ca. 393 to 300 BC. Tetradrachm.
zoom view
Denomination: Silver tetradrachm.
Date: The oval flan suggest a date somewhere around 350 BC.
Size: 18.2 x 22.7 mm   Weight: 17.20 grams.
Reference: Sear-2537.
Grade: gXF and superb for the type
Obverse: Head of Athena right.
Reverse: Owl standing right, with an olive sprig and crescent moon over its shoulder, with AQE to the right.
These late period tetradrachms on oval flans are seldom found this well centred, with a full face on Athena, and as much of the owl on the flan as it is possible to get.  This is not an expensive example but then it is not a  run of the mill example either.
