A particularly pleasing ancient silver drachm, struck under one of Alexander the Great's top Generals and successors, King Lysimachos. Struck at the Lampsakos mint, circa 299 - 296 BC.


The obverse depicts the demigod Herakles, facing right and clad in the skin of the Nemean lion.


The reverse with Zeus enthroned left, eagle in right hand, long vertical scepter in left. The inscription reading:



BASILEOS LUSIMAXOU


"Of King Lysimachos"


Forepart of pegasus and lion in field and torch below throne.



A well centred and beautiful example of fine style.
