Following the capture of Valerian by the Sassanid king Shapur, Macrianus seized control of the roman east. As he was ineligible for the throne due to lameness, he proclaimed his two sons Augustii: Macrianus and Quietus. Less than a year later, the family�s armies were defeated in the Balkans by Gallienus� forces. Quietus attempted to regroup but was defeated a couple months later.
