Son of Euthydemos I, who he succeeded ca. 200 BC, Demetrios I (Damaytra) was reputed to have never been defeated in battle. Posthumously he was referred to as “the Unconquered” (Antiketos) on the pedigree coins of his successor Agathokles. Demetrios extended Greco-Baktrian rule over extensive areas of what is now southern Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and India. The historian Strabo claimed that “more tribes were subdued by [Demetrios] than Alexander”.
