Rev: YΠ AΓPIΠΠA NIKOΠΟΛITΩN ΠPOC IC-TP-Ω Apollo Sauroktonos standing front, head to right, leaning left on tree on which climbs lizard.
Hristova/Jekov 8.23.7.2. Varbanov 3348. Very fine. Nice glossy green patina.
The reverse of this coin shows the famous Apollo Sauroktonos, a bronze statue made by the celebrated sculptor Praxiteles (circa 390-320 BC), of which a copy probably stood in the city of Nicopolis. |
