Numidian Kingdom
Ancient African coins from the Numidian Kingdom. The Berber Kingdom existed in modern Algeria and part of Tunisia from c.202 BC-46 BC. It includes the reigns of Massinissa, Micipsa, Gulussa, Adherbal, Jugurtha, Hiempsal II, Mastanesosus, and Juba I. After Julius Caesar defeated Juba I, the Numidian Kingdom was renamed Africa Nova, until Augustus restored Juba II as the King of Numidia in 31 BC, after the Battle of Actium, controlling a client state of the Roman Empire. Juba II moved to Mauretania and Numidia was absorbed into the Mauretanian Kingdom and Africa Nova, issuing coins for Juba II and his wife, Cleopatra Selene.
