THIS IS THE SAME HULEGU WHO SACKED BAGHDAD, KILLED MOST OF THE MALE POPULATION AND PUT THE LAST ABBASID CALIPH TO DEATH.

In 1258, the Mongols forces of Hulegu, overran baghdad, seizing the caliph al-Musta'sim, whom they allegedly put to death by rolling him in a carpet and allowing elephants to trample him to death, so as to uphold the Mongol traditionof never spilling royal blood. The details of this story may be apocryphal.
