12FL0) The Giray Khans or Crimean Khans succeeded the Golden Horde in what is now part of the Ukraine and southern Russia. Their coins are mostly very rare and typically found in somewhere between awful and just plain bad condition. Quality control was not one of the strong points of their mints. This coin is an above-average example of a silver Beshlik, 19 mm in size and weighing 1.01 grams, from the first reign of Dawlat Giray II b. Selim Giray I (AH 1110-1114/ 1699-1702AD). It is from the Baghcha Saray mint (the only mint of the later Giray Khans) and is dated AH 1111. Unlike most of the later coins of the Giray Khans, this type typically is dated AH 1111 instead of the accession year 1110. Dawlats name and patronymic (b. Hajj Selim Khan) is clear on the obverse, although parts are weak or flat. Most of the mint and date are also visible. This example grades a nice but crudish VF, definitely above average for the type. It is Album 2090, listed as Rare. (Note that the first two editions of Steve Albums Checklist of Islamic Coins call this coin a Para. The soon-to-be-published Third Edition calls it a Beshlik).
