116EB)  TURCO-HEPHTALITE TRIBES, circa 650-700 AD, AR Drachm 32.5 MM, 4.01 GRMS, of YAZDAGARD III, SAKASTAN, RY 10,  bust head right wearing elaborate crown, rev. traditional fire alter with the two attendants.  TAMGHA OF A BIRD, at 1 oclock of the obverse. TYPE OF MITCHINER MACW 1399-1400 (for the countermark) , IN VF COND. PLEASE NOTE THE REVERSE TEST MARK IN THE MARGIN TYPICAL OF THESE TRIBES.

Although such countermarks and Tamghas are normally attributed to the Hephtalites, their period places them after the time when the Hephtalite kingdom in Afghanistan had been overrun by the Khanate of the western Turks. The majority of these countermarks were applied by Turco-Hephtalite rulers. But also some were applied within the caliphate like the Bismillah frequently encountered on Arab Sassanian drachms.
