THis coin is at the very end of the Gupta-Hardaker series. GH date these to c. 210-190 BCE, near the end of the Mauryan period or the start of the Sunga reign.
Note that the coins of this group do not have the sun and the six-armed symbol characteristic of almost all the coins of this series. Instead, they have the "birthday cake" and the animal-topped standard. The coins are hard to come by and much sought after. |
