VERY RARE NERO/VESPASIAN BY AGRIPPA II, SEPPHORIS MINT

SNG 6 - 1085, TJC 127, Good VF, 25.2mm, 14.99
grams.

A VERY RARE coin missing from most collections. This coin was minted during the first Jewish Revolt against Rome which culminated in the destruction of the Temple 2-3 years later.

Amazingly, the coin bears the name of Vespasian, even though Vespasian was only a general at that time. It shows an inclination to the prophetic statements of Rabban Jachanan Ben Zakkai and Josephus who predicted that Vespasian would succeed to the empire.

Sepphoris is known as "Tzipori" in Hebrew and was the home of many Mishnaic sages as well as the Sanhedrin for a while.
