GOLD DARIC, PERSIAN EMPIRE, ACHAEMENID DYNASTY

Carradice Type IIIb, Group A/B, Choice VF, rim (not obverse or reverse surfaces) smoothed down at 5-6 &11-12 to hide mount marks, 15.4mm x 15.1mm, 8.34grams. Struck during rule of Darios I to Xerxes I, Circa. 485 - 420 B.C.E.� Obverse: King running with Spear and Bow� Reverse: Incuse punch

A rich colored deep gold daric with FULL bow and BOLD spear usually not found on these. This is due to the flan being almost as wide as it is long (usually these are more oblong).

This coin is known as Darkamon in the biblical books of Ezra (2:69) and Nehemiah (7:69, 70, 71) and was used during the period of King Ahauesarus (Achashveirosh) and Queen Esther.
