JEWISH WAR FIRST REVOLT AE ONE EIGHTH DENOMINATION

Hendin 1369, Choice VF+/VF, 20.8mm, 5.43 grams, Struck year four 68/69 C.E.

Obverse: Chalice surrounded by inscription "To the redemption of Zion" Reverse: Lulav (palm branch) flanked by two etrogim (citrons), inscription around "Year Four"

A really attractive coin with a FANTASTIC obverse, struck the last year before conquest of Jerusalem and the destruction on the Temple. This coin is inscribed "to the redemption of Zion" instead of the earlier "to the freedom", bearing a Messianic message. Evidence indicates that it was struck in a second mint under the command of Simon Bar Giora. Simon was later executed by the Romans with the downfall of Jerusalem.
