Macedonian Kings. Alexander III ‘the Great’ (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 16.78 g). Imitation of Amphipolis mint. Head of young Herakles r., wearing lion skin headdress / Zeus seated l. on throne, holding eagle and scepter; to l., Λ above torch. Price B10. The youthful and beardless appearance of the Zeus reverse type suggests that this may be an Arabian imitation in which the supreme Greek god has been transformed into Shamash.
