R948 - Valens (A.D. 364-378), Siliqua, 1.86g., Treveri mint (Trier, Germany),  24 August A.D. 367 - 17 November A.D. 375, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of emperor right, DN VALENS PF AVG, rev., Roma seated left on throne, holding victory on globe and spear, VRBS ROMA, TRPS in exergue (RIC 27e2), good very fine, toned, with a great provenance. $295

A. S. Robertson's, "An Inventory of Romano-British Coin Hoards", R.N.S. Special Publication 20, lists two hoards (#1500 and #1516) discovered in a pot by workmen in Reading in 1895. This coin could be from either of the two possibly related finds. The two finds terminate in Honorius and Arcadius the local museum has records c.50 Siliqua and a Solidus, an indeterminate number of coins (this one included) were not recorded.
