Antiochos IV Epiphanes, son of Antiochus III the Great, sacked the Temple in Jerusalem and forced Jews to worship the Greek gods.� The Jews revolted and he lost the conflict to Judas Maccabee who purified and rededicated the Temple, an event upon which the Festival of Hanukkah is based.
