Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower under Parliament issue, Group G, type 44, sixth crowned bust left, stellate lace collar, double arched crown, large value XII in field behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark (R) (1644-45) both sides, .CAROLVS D; G; MAG; BRI; FRA; ET. HIB; REX., rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO, weight 5.78g (Sharp G1/2; Brooker 554; N.2231; S.2800). Once cleaned with uneven patches of tone, otherwise very fine and superior to Brooker's two examples, and a very rare mint mark indeed.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
