Ancient Aztec Pottery Ceramic Incensario Post classic Mexico, circa 1100 A.D. to 1450 AD.Impressive buff clay with polychrome decorated vessel with a shaman or warrior extended from body. He is adorned with three red feather plumes and a short, pleated apron; he holds his right hand on his chest, his face is with a wide nose plate and ear pegs, his arms and legs are adorned with colored hoops.The vessel of conical form with two large, protruding and triple perforated handles. On the front edge of the top is a raised "triangular shield" decorated with a row of blue- ceramic appliques. Size 14-1/4 inches (36cm) H. TL Thermoluminiscent test positive for age! Provenance: Ex collection Professor dr. Günther Marschall, Hamburg (1913-1997), acquired between 1967 and 1975.
