It is from the beginning of the 16th century, little by little the coining procedure is being adopted again as it was done among the Romans, the artists taking pains in the incision of the dies. In this work the Italians also stand out, imitating numerous artists in other European nations, especially in Germany and France (in this, they began already in the second half of the fifteenth century) and spreading everywhere the taste for the commemorative medal. Religious Medals are distinguished by the matters they represent and by the perforated appendix they have to suspend them from the neck or dress.
