The monetary system was based on three currencies: the dinar, the dirham and the felus.
The dinar was gold and was inspired by the coin of the Byzantine emperor Heraclio.
It was first coined by Abdelmalik in the years 695-697 A.D. (76-78 of the Hegira), the
dirham was silver and worth 1/10 of dinar. The felus was minted copper. In the Islamic
currencies only legends appeared proclaiming the uniqueness of God and his preference for
the prophetic mission of Muhammad "In the name of Allah, there is no god but Allah, Muhammad
is the emissary of Allah." Throughout the eighth and ninth centuries, other non-religious
elements appeared in the texts such as the names of governors, caliphs, and characters in the
line of dynastic succession.
