Comments

The moneyer Q. Pomponius Musa plays on his name here by striking a ten coins as a serie related to the myth of the Muses. Nine coins representing the nine Muses along with one coin representing Hercules. Hercules is known in Greece, and as represented on this coin, as Hercules Musarum or Hercules Musageta, meaning Hercules, leader of the Muses.

The Republican Muse series is among the most lovely of Republican coinage. It is one of the more scarcer and desirable versions.

A wonderful, lustrous piece of fine style!
