HADRIAN AE dupondius. Struck at Rome, 118 AD. IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG, radiate head right. Reverse - PONT MAX TR POT COS II, ADVENTVS AVG SC in ex, Hadrian standing left clasping hands with Roma seated right on cuirass. Cohen 92. RCV 3654, valued at $225 in VF. 28mm, 12.2g.

This type, the first of what would become an extensive 'ADVENTUS' series, was struck to commemorate Hadrian's arrival in Rome in 118 AD, folowing his accession. Hadrian's arrival took some time, it was nearly a year after Trajan's death when Hadrian made it to Rome. Apparently there were four former consuls that needed to be executed, capping an attempted treason, prior to the new Emperor taking up residence in Rome.
