C VAL MAXIMIANVS NOB C; Laur. bust r.
GENIO POPVLI ROMANI; Genius, stg.l., holding patera in r.hand, cornucopiae in l.

Ex col. Frans Pouwel, Netherlands, collected since the ‘80’s.

Note: These coins were previously attributed to London, like the unmarked folles of Class II and III still are. But later it was shown that these coins have nothing in common with these London mint unmarked coins, and rather belong to the Lugdunum mint. They were probably minted by Constantius I to ‘equip himself in advance with sufficient “reformed” aes to serve the needs of his forces in Britain in 296 and immediately afterwards’ (RIC p. 231).
