In an attempt to bolster his claim to the purple, Constantine the Great issued a number of ‘pedigree’ coins in the name of three deceased emperors who had been given divine status, his father, Constantius I, his father-in-law Maximian and his alleged ancestor Claudius II Gothicus. The validity of this last pedigree is today unproven but was undoubtedly accepted as having some consequence at the time. A LOT, SOLD AS IS
