Abu Torab Mirza distant nephew of Shah Sultan Hussein was enthroned at the age of eight by the heads of the Bakhtiari tribe and Karim Khan Zand in the year of 1163 as shah Isma'il III in Isfahan.  In 1167AH, He reigned under the regency of Karim Khan. In 1169AH, in a battle which took place in the Northern Iran between the forces of Karim Khan Zand and Muhammad Hassan Khan Qajar, Isma'il took refuge with Muhammad Hassan Khan's camp.  Karim Khan won the battle, Muhammad Hassan Khan escaped, and Isma'il was then deposed and lost his right to mint coins in his own name. The last coins that have been seen minted bearing his name were in 1167AH.
