A beautiful silver medal, struck in Rajkot in January 2015 under the auspices of the Saurashtra Kutch Coin Society in honor of Dr. Shailendra Bhandare, Assistant Keeper for South Asian Coins in the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford. Dr. Bhandare is one of the foremost experts today on Indian coinage. The wording and calligraphy on the medal are executed in a fine Mughal style and the weight mimics the Mughal rupee.
The medal was struck in a limited edition of 101; this coin has serial number 46. It comes in a handsome presentation case (see photos below) and is sure to be a much-desired collector's item.
