Comments The Kongu Cheras ruled in the Kongu area of what is now northwestern Tamilnadu (Coimbatore area) from the late 10th century to the rise of Vijayanagar at the end of the 14th century. Their copper coins all have on the obverse an altar of crossed swords flanked by lamps, with varying numbers of dots above, and a reverse consisting of a bow left, a palm tree right and then varying designs in the center. Here the design seems to be a lamp consisting of a base and a series of dots arranged vertically ... an UNPUBLISHED variety!
