AR Antoninianus 3.21g. 21mm. 253-254 A.D. Antioch mint
Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust, r.
IMP C P LIC VALERIANVS AVG
Sol (or Valerian?), radiate with cloak floating behind, standing r., raising r. hand and holding globe.
RESTITVT GENER HVMANI
RIC V 220 var. (bust, Viminacium); RSC IV 179 (same)
Quite scarce. Toned with some remaining lustre.
Small flan flaws and light porosity. Perhaps an old cleaning, now retoned.
A scarce type. The reverse legend positions Valerian as ‘restorer of the human race,’ so the figure depicted may actually be Valerian as Sol.
