The Ilkhanate was the southwestern portion of the Mongol Empire, comprised primarily of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. The House of Hulagu, founded by Hulagu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, ruled the Ilkhanid territories until the Black Death ravaged the empire in the 1330s.
