AE 1/4 Follis 2.07g. 16mm. 317-318 A.D. (struck under Constantine I) Rome Mint

Laureate and veiled head, r.

DIVO MAXIMIANO SEN FORT IMP

Lion standing r., head facing, tail high; In ex.: R[?]

MEMORIAE AETERNAE

RIC VII 123 var. (lion facing r.)

Rare lion variety. Dark brown patina. Good detail despite issues.

Some lightly rough spots.

An unusual and seemingly rare variety in which the lion is not advancing right but instead is standing right with head facing. Not in RIC as such; we could only find one other example. The officina letter is obscured, but all are listed as rarity R2 or higher.
