This type is normally attributed to Thasos, but from what I have been told these coins are not actually found on the  Island of Thasos, but rather on the mainland opposite the Island and my be a local tribal coinage of that region.

Denomination : Silver stater.  Mint : Thasos (?)

Date : ca. 463 to 411 BC.

Size : 20.2 x 23.6 mm.  Weight : 8.38 grams

Reference : Sear-1746.

Grade : VF and nicely centred with good metal, but struck with a slightly worn obverse die.

Obverse : Naked Satyr carrying a struggling nymph.

Reverse : Quadripart square.
