Taras is in Calabria in southern Italy, and is also known as Tarentum.

Denomination : Silver didrachm (sometimes called a Nomos).

Date : 380 to 345 BC according to Svornos, 420 to 380 according to Sear.

Size : 20.0 x 22.3 mm.  Weight :  7.35 grams.

Reference : Vlasto-428 to 448 variety. Sear-335 variety.

Grade : VF, reasonably well centered for the type. There is a small flan crack.

Obverse : Naked horseman riding left, holding a small shield, with a small Y below.

Reverse : Taras seated left on a dolphin, with a small L below the dolphin's belly, and TARAS below that.

For reasons I do not understand, it has become fashionable to call this coin denomination of nomos.   The Greek word "nomos" appears to simply mean "acceptable currency" and is more an accounting term than the name of a specific coin type.
