Denomination : silver tetradrachm. Mint : Syracuse.

Date : Time of Hieron I (478 to 466 BC).

Size : 23.5 x 24.6 mm. Weight: 17.33 grams.

Reference : Sear-823 variety. It came to me with an attribution to Boehringer 342.

Grade : F/VF with a slight grainyness to the metal on the obverse, and a few minor scratches on the reverse that look worse on the image than they do on the coin. On a nice sized flan.

Obverse : Quadriga driven right by a male charioteer holding a goad, with a small figure of Nike flying above.

Reverse : Head of Artemis-Arethusa right, with four dolphines around, with a retrograde SURAKOSION between her head and the dolphins.
