zoom view

Denomination : bronze Octavio (8 maravedes).

Mint : Cuenica.  Date : After 1497

Size : 29.1 x 30.1 mm.  Weight : 7.47 grams.

Grade :  VF, with a pretty good strike.  There is a little roughness, but over all this is a nice example of a type I seldom see.  The patina is a dark brown.

Obverse : Castle with the mint mark C for Cuenica to the left, with FERNANDVS ET ELISABET around.

Reverse : Crowned lion standing left in a luster of arrows with an ornate ribbon above, with D G REX ET REGINA CAST L  (or similar) around.   Parts of the inscription are no struck up, so this reading might not be exact, but will be close.
