Denomination : Silver Kopek.  Mint : Novgorod.

Date : dated in the Russian system to the equivalent of AD 1598.

Size : 11.2 x 14.1 mm.  Weight : 0.66 grams.  This is a fairly small coin.

Grade : VF but the reverse is slightly double struck and the obverse is a little weak in the centers.  The mint and date mark is very clear, which this a superior specimen of this type.

Obverse : Czar riding right. thrusting a spear, with HOPS below.  HO is the mint mark for Novgorod.  PS is the date code that translates to 1598.

Reverse : Cyrillic inscription that translates to "TSAR AND PRINCE GRAND FEODOR OF ALL RUSSIA".

These small coins are commonly known as wire money as they were struck on flans cut from lengths of wire.  All have shear marks at the ends, resulting from how the wire was cut.  The flans are generally smaller than the dies, so only very rarely will very well centered specimens with everything on the flan be encountered (never for some issues).
